| Summer Movies So Far... |

Iron Man
Iron Man is looking better
and better now that we have seen much of the competition. The acting and script are not diminished by its comic book provenance. You still have time to see it in the theater, where movies are best seen.

Speed Racer
I actually feel a twinge of regret that I walked out of Speed Racer with 45 minutes to go. I intended to return,
but it disappeared before I had the opportunity.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Chronicles of Narnia is a well done sequel that tells the best story of all the summer movies so far. I can recommend this movie without reservation. It is my favorite of the summer until further notice.

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull
Indiana Jones remains a disappointment, except at
the box office. It fails to
deliver the goods that is promised by its history. However, as a movie fan,
you still have to see it and decide for yourself.

Sex and the City
I guess I will have to dip my toes in the water sometime, maybe on DVD.
(I am only writing that because my boss keeps bugging me to go –
no chance you will find me in
that movie.)

Kung Fu Panda
Kung Fu Panda is a cartoon movie. Why do grownups have to approach cartoon movies as if they can be compared with real people movies? Oh yeah. The kids will like it, especially if you buy them a Kid’s Pack for $4.75 (substitute an icee for the soda at no extra charge, your kids will love you even more).

You Don't Mess With The Zohan
Zohan's trailers were so repulsive that I grit my teeth just writing about it. Maybe
it is as funny as Happy
Gilmore, Waterboy, and the Hanukah Song, but I doubt it. Adam Sandler is another in
a long line of hysterically funny asexual comedians
that choose a more “Mature”
path and lose their way
(Jerry Lewis, Steve Martin,
Jim Carrey, ad infinitum).

The Incredible Hulk
The Incredible Hulk is about CGI sensory overload, but
l
ike Iron Man, I may come to like it
more in retrospect. With Iron Man and now Hulk,
Marvel Comics deserves
credit for hiring terrific actors and actresses. But I believe it is fair to say that Tim Roth’s and William Hurt’s performances as military men are seriously off-key.

The Happening
The Happening actually starts out like it is going to be the movie you were really looking forward to seeing, but It ends like a low budget college film that has run out of ideas.

|
Upcoming movies after this weekend's Get Smart and Love Guru releases are Wall-E from Pixar, Wanted with super assasin Angelina Jolie, a drunken superhero Will Smith in Hancock, Journey to the Center of the Earth (in 3D at the South Point), Hellboy 2, Meet Dave with Eddie Murphy, and The Dark Knight and Mamma Mia both opening on July 18th. I look forward to Get Smart more than Love Guru. Everyone loves Wall-E – we shall see. Wanted gets me excited with a real action figure (Ms. Jolie). Hancock looks like another Will Smith Independence Day release. Hellboy 2 – yes. Journey 3D – I love 3D. Meet Dave – Eddie Murphy meet Pluto Mars. Dark Knight for the strong. Mamma Mia for everyone else. |
